Description
Discover Alma Negra Mendoza, a captivating red wine from Argentina born from the visionary spirit of Ernesto Catena. As the eldest son of Nicolás Catena from Catena Zapata, Ernesto embodies the fourth generation of winemakers, blending global adventures with creative passions. His journeys took him worldwide, where he pursued a bachelor's in computer science and economics, a master's in design from Milan, and a history degree in London. Known as the bohemian heart of the Catena family, he devours books, paints, collects art, rides horses, plays polo, and masters archery.
In 2002, Ernesto founded Ernesto Catena Vineyards to chase his ideals: crafting exceptional wines that stand apart from the crowd, produced in limited quantities, and infused with a bold identity. Before that, as president of Bodegas Escorihuela, he yearned for something more personal. Alma Negra emerged as his canvas, translating to "Black Soul"—a nod to the profound, inky hue of wines drawn from the bonarda grape. Those initial reds poured into the glass like shadows, intense and enigmatic.
Launched in 2006 under the Misterio name, this wine invites mystery. Ernesto designed it to reveal little about its makeup or backstory, letting your own senses dictate its story. The label's mask hints at concealed depths, urging you to uncover them sip by sip. No formulas or disclosures here—just pure, unfiltered encounter.
At 13.70% ABV and in a 750 ml bottle, Alma Negra Mendoza offers a gateway to Argentina's soulful reds. With its dry profile marked by a sweetness level of 01, it suits those seeking something distinctive amid everyday choices. Priced at $22.99, this varietal standout from the other red wine realm delivers intrigue without pretense. Elevate your collection or table with a bottle that whispers secrets, crafted for the curious palate ready to explore beyond the ordinary.
